Planning Yourself Out of a Personal Recession
All this talk of recession can take its toll. Even if you are fortunate enough not to have been personally affected by the downturn in the economy, you can’t help but look to the future with trepidation. No one knows exactly what will happen. What we do know is that nothing will be the same. Change has come, for better or worse.
And, this fear of change, this fear of the unknown has most people frozen. Can’t you sense this stagnation? We are all caught up in this collective hibernation. We have reacted to this new environment by retracting out of instinct. But, is this really what we should be doing? We have to change, but is complete withdrawal the answer? Probably not.
Strictly looking at it from an individual level, just retreating out of reaction is not the best way to handle a personal recession. What this time really calls for is reflection, goal setting and planning. This is the perfect time to reflect on how you have arrived at this crossroads in your life. Everyone shares the blame in our current situation. So if you are in a personal recession, you have created it to some extent. Be honest with yourself. What did you or did you not do to help create your world?
Goal setting, life planning or whatever you want to call it is important to move forward. And, you have to move. Not moving, hibernating will not get you out of a recession. You must feel in control. You must know where you are going. Review your life. Where do you want to go?
Finally, plan it. How will you make it happen? Don’t just dream it. Set a course. Then start moving forward. Work your plan. You will see soon enough that you do have control. You can create your life. And, if we all do this, we will all see our world move forward. Just remember: Move!
